Kayla Harrison is the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, and her first defense finally has a date.

UFC.com announced Sunday that Harrison will defend against Amanda Nunes as the co-main of Polymarket UFC 334 on Nov. 14 at Madison Square Garden — the same New York card that features Ciryl Gane’s heavyweight title defense. The Sep. 20 Zac Pacleb news item is the primary booking.

Champion and title picture

Harrison won the belt with a Round 2 kimura of Julianna Peña at UFC 316 on June 7, 2025. She has not defended since. The pair was originally set for UFC 324 to open the year; Harrison withdrew and underwent surgery. The matchup is now back on a numbered-card co-main in November. That is the delay history; the Nov. 14 date is the booking that matters.

Nunes is returning from retirement. UFC.com framed the bout as a matchup years in the making — one that seemed capable of pulling her back after she stepped into the Octagon to face off with Harrison following the Peña win. For Nunes, the piece noted, it is a first fight in more than three years and a chance to face the one recent bantamweight champion she has not already beaten. She enters as an unranked returnee challenger.

Until Sunday’s news item, women’s bantamweight was champion-present and schedule-empty at the top. Manager talk of a 2026 fight was a window, not a fight on an event page. That is no longer the state of the division.

Contenders around the title fight

Ranked women’s bantamweight depth stays in the picture around Nov. 14, not ahead of it. Julianna Peña and Raquel Pennington still rate high on some UFC.com rankings lists; Joselyne Edwards and others are the form case on others depending on which pull you check. None of those names is the challenger at Madison Square Garden.

Near-term ladder color: Norma Dumont vs. Ailin Perez on Sept. 26 Fight Night remains a ranked bout that can shuffle who sits behind the title fight. It is not a title eliminator announced as such. The card is a double-title night at The Garden: Gane–Hokit headlines; Harrison–Nunes co-mains.
