Ciryl Gane is the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion. The promotion said so Sunday in a UFC.com news item announcing his first defense: Gane vs. Josh Hokit at Polymarket UFC 334 on Nov. 14 at Madison Square Garden.
That is the official elevation. What has not updated yet are the public listings most fans check first.
What UFC news said Sunday
In a Sep. 20 piece by Zac Pacleb — headlined around the New York card — UFC.com called Gane the “undisputed heavyweight champion” and described “Gane’s promotion to undisputed champion.” The same item books Hokit as the challenger for Nov. 14 at The Garden. The announcement landed on the Crypto.com UFC 331 broadcast Saturday night in Los Angeles.
The path is the one the division has been waiting on since Tom Aspinall vacated on Monday, Sept. 14. Aspinall stepped aside because ongoing eye complications blocked medical clearance; he said he did not want to hold the division up and that he is not retiring. Gane had been interim champion since June 14, when he stopped Alex Pereira by TKO at 1:27 of Round 2 at UFC Freedom 250.

White’s misspeak, then the correction
In the days before UFC 331, Dana White indicated in secondary interviews that Gane would not be elevated — comments that sat awkwardly against Aspinall’s vacate and Gane’s interim status. After the Los Angeles card, White corrected himself at the post-fight presser, acknowledging he had misspoken and confirming Gane as undisputed.
