Makhachev holds 170. No title fight is booked.

Islam Makhachev is the UFC welterweight champion. He won the 170-pound title at UFC 322, then defended it with a unanimous decision over Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 on Aug. 15. The champion is 29-1. No title fight appears on any published UFC event page.

Who fights him next is open. There is no consensus No. 1 contender. Garry just lost the title shot in August and is still widely ranked first on many lists. Carlos Prates is widely ranked first on others, and Makhachev has named him as the preferred matchup. Michael Morales is the undefeated climber — 19-0 on his UFC athlete page, including a first-round TKO of Sean Brady at UFC 322 — and has not been slotted into a title fight. Until an event page prints a name opposite Makhachev, that three-way case is the title picture.

The only ranked main

The only ranked welterweight main event on the calendar is Joaquin Buckley vs. Mike Malott on Oct. 17 in Edmonton — real ranked pulse, not a challenger crowning. What changed since August is that the calendar never filled with a rematch or a new challenger. What matters next is the first official title booking after that defense.
