Cristhian Plasencia – Columnist & Feature Writer, Live Event Coverage

Cristhian Plasencia is a sports journalist whose reporting ranges from combat sports to women’s basketball. In 2015, Cristhian began his reporting career at South Dade News Leader covering high school and local sports, including local grappling tournaments and the Heart & Soul Taekwondo Championship.

Currently, Plasencia hosts The Modern Colosseum with Ethan Hallberg on Radio DePaul Sports. The weekly radio show recaps MMA and boxing fights, while also interviewing fighters from the locale of Chicago.

Plasencia was born in Miami, Florida and grew up around boxing, as his brothers gravitated more towards Judo and Jiu Jitsu. He boxed as an amateur until the age of 21. Now, Plasencia resides in downtown Chicago, earning an MA journalism degree at DePaul University.

Max is a lifetime enthusiast of professional boxing, karate, and collegiate wrestling having identified as a kid with the excitement of silver screen stars, Bruce Lee and Billy Jack. As with many MMA fans, the door opened wide to Mixed Martial Arts in 2005 when the UFC & Spike TV partnered to bring MMA competition to mainstream media via The Ultimate Fighter reality television series.

Max has been following MMA since that time, and his interests have subsequently broadened into Women’s MMA, Bellator MMA, Invicta FC, the Professional Fighters League, ONE Championship and other up & coming mixed martial arts organizations.
